With the advancements in the Internet, it has become very easy for people worldwide to access different music genres and songs.
The most recent K-pop sensation, New Jeans, really hit off last year. Recently, they released an EP named “How Sweet.”
In the EP released on May 24, the title track “How Sweet” found itself in the spotlight for plagiarism concerns.
A netizen made a video comparing How Sweet with two other songs. One of them is Summer Love by local band Midnight Fusic (released on 25 August 2022), while the other is F.U.I.L.Y by Karencitta (released on 5 October 2023).
In the video, we can clearly hear that the progression of both verses is similar to the one by Midnight Fusic. The main difference is that Midnight Fusic’s track has more instruments while New Jeans’ is more bubble gum and Karencitta’s more RnB.
According to Koreaboo, New Jeans’ plagiarism controversy might have been kickstarted by HYBE, an entertainment company that is currently at odds with New Jeans’ company.
It sounds very similar, but we don’t know what to make of it. What is your take on this? Let us know in the comments.
