Just yesterday, Malaysians digitally fought a Philippines-based Facebook page after they posted that certain locations in Sabah belonged to the Philippines.
Now, it seems the fight isn’t over as another Facebook page shared a ranking of Southeast Asian dishes, and Malaysians (and others!) are not having it.
The TasteAtlas Facebook page’s ranking contains 4 categories:
- Best at 4.5 stars and above
- Great at 4 stars and above
- OK at 3.5 stars and above
- Worst at below 3.5 stars
Here’s where the problem starts
Not only is there only 1 Malaysian dish in the ranking, Nasi Lemak, but the beloved dish was placed under ‘OK’ with a mere 3.9 stars.
The dishes that landed under ‘Best’ includes Lumpiang Shanghai (Philippines), Tortang Talong (Philippines) and Bubur Ayam (Chicken Porridge – Indonesia).
Whereas, the dishes under ‘Great’ are Pho (Vietnam), Pad Thai (Thailand) and Satay (Indonesia).
Malaysians defend Nasi Lemak and denounce the ranking
In fact, the ranking is so ridiculous, it begs the question…
While the TasteAtlas post explains that the ranking for voted by their audience, others believe that their audience might be targeted towards a specific country.
Either way, we don’t need a ranking to know that Nasi Lemak is rightfully one of the ultimate best dishes in Southeast Asia.
And no ranking is going to tell us otherwise.
