Wearing a Chinese emperor’s outfit for the Chinese New Year celebration, Pahang State Investment, Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation Committee chairman Datuk Mohamad Nizar Najib called on the rakyat to reject anything that could disrupt social harmony.

In a Facebook post, Nizar, who is the son of former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, shared photos of himself dressed as a Qing Dynasty Emperor at the closing ceremony of the 2025 Chinese New Year Festival organised by the Kuantan Chinese Opera Arts Association.

“May Pahang stay safe from evil influences”

The event was also attended by a few Pahang Exco members, including PKR’s Sim Chon Siang and DAP’s Leong Yu Man. Nizar was accompanied by his wife to the event, who also rocked a traditional Chinese outfit.

In his post, Nizar said he was there on behalf of Pahang Menteri Besar Dato’ Sri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail. Accordingly, he officiated the closing ceremony of the event on the Menteri Besar’s behalf.

“Hope Pahang stays peaceful and free from ‘evil influences’ that could divide our multiracial community. Happy Chinese New Year,” he wrote.

In the photos, Nizar and other Pahang Exco members can be seen participating in celebratory activities associated with Chinese New Year, such as “lou sang”, writing Chinese calligraphy, and witnessing lion dance performances.
