At last, it has come to this; former disgraced Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has to stand trial for all that he has been involved in with the 1MDB scandal, among other things. But as you probably have heard over mainstream news sources, the trial hasn’t gone very smoothly either, with plenty of hiccups along the way.
Now, a new report from Free Malaysia Today says that Najib told the High Court yesterday that he had been ‘misled’ by signatures that looked like his own, but were not signed by him. Umm…
This was said to have happened when the former Prime Minister was shown documents related to SRC International’s bid to obtain over RM4 billion in loans from the Retirement Fund Incorporated (KWAP).
Najib made this claim when he was cross-examined by ad hoc prosecutor V Sithambaram. At the time, the lawyer was asking him about his admission to MACC officers that he already signed three documents on behalf of Ministry of Finance incorporated, which authorised SRC International to get the RM4 billion loan between August 2011 and February 2012.
“I was confused by the signatures,”
“I assumed it was my signature. I cannot remember all things that happened nine years ago.” Najib said.
He continues to deny all allegations of him having misled the court. The hearing will continue today (7th January 2019) before High Court judge Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali.
So what do you guys make of his statement? Did he really forget everything that happened over nine years ago? Did someone else sign his signatures on his behalf?
