Najib Razak was asked to comment about the Bersih 5 rally by Malaysian journalists during the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) Leaders’ Meeting 2016.
The Prime Minister said that Malaysians are fed up with the Bersih rallies as they do not bring any benefit to the country.
He also added the these rallies which are attempts to topple to government was constitutionally and legally wrong.
“We Malaysians must uphold the principle of the rule of law, otherwise there will be chaos in the country and the people will suffer,” he said as reported by Bernama.
Journalists further asked Najib about his thoughts on ex-prime minister Tun Dr Mahatir Mohamad attending the Bersih rally, which he responded,
This only showed that Dr Mahathir would engage in activities contrary to what he did when he was the prime minister

Dr Mahathir’s comments about the national economy were merely unsubstantiated political rhetoric without the support of facts from international organisations such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) or the World Bank, said Najib.
Najib went on to point out that the absence of action by international rating agencies showed that Malaysia was well governed under his wing.
“If we are in an economic crisis, surely the rating agencies will lower our rating.
“The IMF and World Bank will issue criticisms and discuss measures that the government has to adopt.
“There is no reason for us to be anxious.” he said.
Najib continued by stating that the government will continue to govern the people well to ensure every citizen is well taken care of.
