A decomposing body was found in a river in Banting, Selangor, and PDRM believed it may be related to the 15-year-old girl who went missing in Cheras on December 19.

Selangor Chief Police, Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, said the body was found yesterday (December 30), and a DNA test would need to be done to verify the deceased’s identity, who is believed to be Yap Xin Yuan.

In addition, he also revealed that the police have arrested three people to assist in investigating the case, including Xin Yuan’s 16-year-old boyfriend.

In a report by 8TV News and China Press, the police will issue a statement to explain the details of the case after the DNA test results are released.

Before Yap Xin Yuan disappeared, CCTV near her boyfriend’s home captured her taking a taxi to her boyfriend’s house in the early morning of the day she disappeared. On the day of her disappearance, Xin Yuan told her parents that she was going to a lion dance practice.

However, Xin Yuan’s boyfriend said she went to his house at 4 PM and left an hour later, contradicting the information shown on the CCTV footage. Xin Yuan’s phone has been unreachable since December 20.
