The High Court just announced its verdict in the high-profile case against former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in relation to the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) corruption trial.
Judge Datuk Collin Lawrence Sequerah, who’s now a Court of Appeal judge, said that all 25 charges against Najib related to 1MDB are valid and not defective.
A decision was made on Najib’s 21 counts of money laundering
Earlier today BERNAMA reported that Najib is facing 21 money laundering charges for allegedly committing the offences at the same bank between March 22, 2013, and August 30, 2013.
In a recent turn of events, Najib has been told to enter his defence on all 25 graft charges, which include 21 counts of money laundering tied to RM 2.3 billion from 1MDB, as quoted by CNA Senior Correspondent Melissa Goh.
The case will resume on December 2
These charges fall under Section 4(1)(a) of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing, and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001, which could lead to a fine of up to RM5 million, a prison sentence of up to 5 years, or both if he’s convicted.
Since August 23, 2022, Najib has been serving time at Kajang Prison after being found guilty of misappropriating RM42 million from SRC International Sdn Bhd.
The case is set to resume on December 2.
