The National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) has today issued a warning to residents in several areas in Peninsular Malaysia to brace themselves for the high tide phenomenon that is predicted to last until Thursday (13 October 2022). The areas involved include Kuala Muda in Kedah, Bagan Datuk in Perak, Port Klang in Selangor, as well as Batu Pahat and Pontian in Johor.
As reported by Bernama, the agency under the Prime Minister’s Department elaborated that the phenomenon is caused by the gravitational pull exerted on earth when the moon and sun are aligned. Moreover, the phenomenon will likely cause an overflow of water on land and flooding in low-lying areas along the Malaysian coast.
Hence, NADMA warned residents near coastal areas to be more aware and advised for them to be more alert when the phenomenon occurs. The agency also urged Malaysians to check the tide table in Malaysia here for more information.
