Over the last few days, there have been a number of reports which claimed that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob will be announcing a new Deputy Prime Minister and is planning to have a Cabinet reshuffle as well as.
A source told Utusan that Ismail Sabri had met Former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin yesterday to discuss this matter and may make the announcement next week.
“Nothing’s been decided yet, it may be next week after the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday. By right Ismail Sabri should have met Muhyiddin yesterday (3 January) to discuss this matter in particular the minister and deputy ministers in Bersatu,” said the source.
Utusan also reported that the 3 nominees for Deputy Prime Minister are all from Bersatu, and they are: Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu, and International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali.
“However, Muhyiddin is leaning towards Azmin. During his administration, he trusted Azmin to handle the duties of prime minister in his absence.”
Ismail Sabri says that it is all a speculation
Following the various reports, Ismail Sabri has come out to dismiss it and said that such reports were mere speculation.
He explained that his focus is now on the floods and the Covid-19 situation.
“Yes, people are talking, names are being mentioned, it’s normal. I have said it before, my focus is now on the floods, so I don’t want to talk about whether or not there will be a Cabinet reshuffle. I didn’t announce any, so there’s none!”
