A mother in Jiangsu, China intended to teach her 17-year-old son about hard-earned money and tough life by allowing him to work with her during the semester holiday, but the result was more than what she expected.

In her viral Douyin video @蒙蒙, the woman revealed that her son made RMB10,000 (approximately RM6,100) in just 10 days by selling fast food on a cart.

“My intention was to let him experience how tough life can be, so that he could learn to appreciate every learning opportunity. I never expected him to enjoy doing this business,” the mum said.

The teen graduated from high school this year and entered a vocational school to study culinary arts. However, after getting involved in the business that earned him thousands in less than 2 weeks, he had a change of heart about going back to lectures.

“He told me there’s no point in going back to school. Now, he just wants to follow me and set up the stall,” the woman said.

Her son went out to set up the stall at around 4 PM every day and was busy until 2 to 3 AM. While her son has made a lot of money in just a couple of weeks, the woman admitted that was not the outcome she expected at all and her plan backfired

“I actually wanted him to ‘suffer’ a little and go back to school. I’ve persuaded him many times to go back to school but he insisted on staying with me to set up the stall.”

The woman had no other choice but to respect his son’s wishes. However, she mentioned that she does not encourage other parents to follow suit.

“I remain hopeful that my son will continue his studies,” she said.

The satisfaction of making money is undeniable but we hope the teen will return to school as soon as possible.
