As we all know, Good Vibes Festival was cancelled after Matt Healy of The 1975 had given a drunken speech bashing the Malaysian government and made out with his bandmate on stage.
His actions had ultimately caused the whole Good Vibes Festival to be cancelled and most Malaysians are not happy about this.
Talitha Tan, a Malaysian artist was supposed to be performing at the festival and in an Instagram post, she mentioned that the set was dedicated to her mother who passed away after a freak accident.
“The FIRST performance after my mum’s death, for me to be able to DEDICATE A FREAKING SET FOR HER. Is now cancelled.”
“Mummy, I am so so sorry.”
In the post, she also said that Matt Healy was recklessly ignorant, selfish, and incapable to adjust and respect different cultures while having a white saviour complex. We would think that he has main-character syndrome as well.
Talitha also highlights that after doing what he did, Matt Healy can now go back to his own country and boast about how he did an amazing thing for Malaysia’s youths when he actually made things worse.
“So yeah, @trumanblack (his Instagram username), “I am furious” at you and your white privilege, thanks for nothing.”
She also uploaded several Instagram stories apologizing to her fans.
“I am so sorry, a performance dedicated to my mum and also to anyone who has suffered the pain of losing a loved one. I’m sorry I didn’t get to dedicate this to you, Mummy, I owe you my life.”
In her grief, she also sent multiple DMs to Matt Healy to let him know exactly how his actions had ruined others.
Her latest Instagram story also served to clarify that she was an ally to the Malaysian LGBTQ+ community and whatever that Matt Healy did was damaging to the community instead.
Our heart goes out to Talitha and everyone who was affected by this.
