It is said that hospitals nationwide are facing a shortage of face shields and this is definitely not a very good sign.
However, once the 3D printing and design community got word of this, they thought long and hard and came up with the idea of using their very own 3D printers to help out with the situation!
According to Malay Mail, Nurfaiz Foat started the Facebook group 3D Printing Malaysia Community for Covid-19, and said the group is a grass-root effort to help frontliners by creating face shields using 3D printing!
In the Facebook group, we can see that the order of operations is clearly written and they are all very willing to help each other (troubleshooting, shortage of raw materials, etc.).
In a FAQ by the group admins, they have said that their face shields are good enough to be used in low-risk areas and operations according to doctors. They have also mentioned that they do their best to ensure their places of production are clean and hygienic but they are, however, not sterile. So when they hand over the finished products to the hospitals, they make sure to inform them of that first so they know what to expect.
Other than that, they have also received a lot of positive feedback from the doctors in multiple hospitals saying that their design is comfortable!
