As the world slowly recovers from the effects that the Covid-19 virus has brought upon the globe. countries are once again slowly opening up for vaccinated visitors.
However, it seems that some countries will only let in people who have had certain Covid-19 vaccines.
According to Kosmo, two Malaysians who had gotten the Sinovac booster jabs were denied entry into Germany.
The siblings intended to spend Ramadan with their youngest sibling who’s studying in Dusseldorf, Germany, but was turned away by immigration officers on the basis that they were Sinovac vaccine recipients.
When interviewed at the arrival hall of Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) yesterday (22 March), they expressed their gratitude for being able to return home.
Fariq who is one of the brothers, said that they were exhausted after having to travel over 15 hours in 2 different flights.
He said the family arrived in Germany last Saturday to visit their youngest brother who is studying at a university there.
Despite adhering to all strict screening protocols set by travel agencies and Turkish Airlines, the Sinovac vaccine was used as an excuse to be rejected in Germany.
A spokesman from the travel agency explained that only their parents were allowed to enter the country.
Fariq hoped that their experience of being treated like criminals by German authorities will server as a reminder for all Sinovac recipients.
Currently, Germany only allows these five vaccines to be given to its citizens:
- Novavax
- Moderna
- Pfizer
- Johnson & Johnson
- AstraZeneca
We hope that this will serve as a reminder for anyone planning to travel abroad to check which vaccines the country accepts before making travel plans.
