A recent video has caught the attention of many netizens after Malaysia Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) personnel from the Indera Mahkota Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) carried out an inspection in Kuantan, Pahang.
In a post on their Facebook page, Indera Mahkota BBP shared that they conducted checks on fire hydrants across their assigned areas on 27 March.

Contractors criticised as fire hydrants discharge murky water
In the video shared in the post, firefighters can be seen digging through the public road, revealing a sealed compartment connected to each fire hydrant.
During the inspection, several hydrants were seen discharging murky, dirty water.

“Each hydrant was checked thoroughly to ensure it is in good condition, fully operational, and free from any damage. This is to ensure continuous readiness in the event of emergencies and to keep the community safe,” the caption read.
However, many netizens were concerned about the condition of the water, with some calling for the contractors responsible for the hydrants to be held accountable.

Public reaction

“Track down the irresponsible contractor who did such a poor job that it caused unnecessary trouble. Where were the local authorities (PBT)? Was the Public Works Department (JKR) asleep during the inspection?”

“Poor firefighters, trying to do their job while the contractor’s negligence on the roads makes it even harder.”

“In the event of a fire, it would be a huge hassle for the firefighters to locate a hydrant, all because the contractor didn’t follow the proper work specifications.”

“The contractor who did the paving and the authorities in charge of the road, be it PBT or JKR, should be held accountable.”

“It shows that the municipal engineers and technicians lacked competence and were not on-site while the contractor carried out the work.”

“If you want to be a contractor, at least do it responsibly. Don’t make things harder for our firefighters. Be smart, not careless, and don’t cause problems for others.”
