The Fire and Rescue Department Malaysia (JBPM) recently held the Fire Safety Carnival in Ipoh, Perak on 28 and 29 October, a fun-filled programme in which the public can learn more about the uniform body, what to do during fire emergencies, see live demonstrations and more.
Overall, the carnival was successful and attracted visitors from all walks of life. These include Malaysians who are differently-abled, such as the deaf and mute community.
Thankfully, one JBPM officer, more affectionately known as Abang Bomba in Malaysia, is ready to assist and cater to their needs during the carnival.
As shared by the JBPM official TikTok account, the Abang Bomba can be seen in a video utilising his excellent sign language skills to communicate with several attendees of the carnival who are differently-abled.
Not only that, he was also spotted giving a demonstration about fire safety to the differently-abled in sign language, ensuring that they too can learn and have fun at the carnival like other visitors.

One commenter praised JBPM for having officers who are fluent in sign language and hoped that government departments could follow suit and require those who work in service counters to learn sign language.
Meanwhile, there are also a few who suggest for sign language be taught in school, at least a basic introductory form of it.
