Yesterday (5 February), former Member of Parliament (MP) for Damansara Tony Pua was summoned to the Criminal Investigation Department in Bukit Aman to provide a statement to the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) on a series of sarcastic posts he made on Facebook regarding former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak receiving a reduced sentence by the Pardons Board.
Facing a serious investigation under the Sedition Act 1948 and the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, Tony gave full cooperation to PDRM and iterated that there was nothing seditious about the posts, saying that “upsetting Najib or UMNO isn’t sedition”.
Speaking to the media outside of Bukit Aman following PDRM’s recording of his statements, photos of the former Damansara MP have since caught the attention of Malaysians and gone viral.
However, the reason behind it going viral was not due to the investigation, but due to the shirt that he wore to Bukit Aman.
Malaysians can’t get enough of Tony’s dino shirt
Dressed in a white polo shirt with cartoon dinosaur prints, many Malaysians took to the comments section of Tony’s Facebook post to say how adorably cute the shirt was.
So much so, that many even asked the former Damansara MP where he bought the dino shirt as they’re planning to buy it for themselves.
One commenter said that Tony looked unfazed at being summoned by PDRM and how she loved Tony’s dino shirt.
Moreover, several commenters expressed how cute and amusing the shirt is.
Given the response to his dino shirt, Tony posted a separate Facebook post to give more detail about the shirt, which is actually a golfer shirt he bought from a friend’s start-up.
Tony shared,
“Haha. Many have been asking me where they can purchase the dino t-shirt. I bought it from a golfer friend whose new start-up sells high-quality sports polo shirts.”
He then shared that the start-up is now offering a Buy 2 Get 1 Free promotion and orders can be made here. The former Damansara MP also hilariously disclosed that he won’t be getting any commission for the shout-out.
There’s even a knock-off version from a local brand
Following the dino shirt’s sudden popularity, Cheapreme, a local community-profit-sharing platform disguised as a t-shirt printing brand took advantage of the hype to create its own version of the shirt, aptly calling it “The Tony’s Dino”.
