If you haven’t checked your EPF account in a while, you might want to do so after reading about what happened to this woman!

Last Wednesday (1st November), 55-year-old Tan Swee Gek paid a visit to the Employees Provident Fund’s (EPF) Kajang branch to update her account.

However, she was shocked to find that a “mystery man” was listed as a beneficiary along with her husband and son!

“My wife and I had agreed to withdraw all our savings as she has already reached the age of 55,” Tan’s husband, Yong Kim Leong, stated at a press conference at Wisma MCA Negeri Sembilan today, according to Free Malaysia Today.

“The EPF officer (on duty) didn’t allow us to do so as there is another name (under her account)… This should not have happened.”

Since the incident occurred, Seremban MCA chief Siow Koi Voon informed Deputy Finance Minister Lee Chee Leong about the incident over the past weekend, saying,

“On Tuesday (7th November), a special assistant to the deputy minister told us that the incident was probably due to an error during the key-in process of customers’ personal data in the computer.”

“Perhaps, the employee had accidentally entered the wrong data. However, we will sort this out.”

So, remember to frequently check your accounts, everyone!
