A 21-year-old woman from Batu Pahat, Johor recently walked through her flood-hit hometown for approximately 12km just to make sure that her pet cats are doing well and had enough food. Accompanied by her friend, the woman, Siti Nooryani Mohd Kamal said that they braved the ever-changing flood conditions, sometimes even going through water levels as high as her waist.
As reported by BERNAMA, despite all the challenges, she was determined to go back to her home in Kampung Melayu Sungai Jong, Parit Sulong and check on her 5 cats. On 3 March 2023, her home and the surrounding area within the Batu Pahat small town were hit by floods with waters rising up to waist level.
Siti Nooryani has been living at her extended family’s house in Parit Maimon and after 7 days of evacuating her home, she was adamant about returning to check out the conditions of her feline pets. She shared,
“My parents told our family that we didn’t evacuate during the 2006 big flood but this time around, we had to do so not only due to rising water levels but also after the electricity was cut for safety purposes.
“Considering that it has been 7 days since we left our home, I am determined to go back by braving through the flood after seeing the improved weather conditions lately so that I can see the conditions of our home and feed my cats that I have had for the past 6 years.”
What a brave and caring pet owner! Siti Nooryani’s cats are lucky to have someone like her to take care of them. Hopefully, the conditions in flood-hit Johor have improved and residents can recover and rebuild safely.
