People in many countries are panicking about the Wuhan coronavirus (2019-nCoV) outbreak, and face masks and hand sanitisers are sold out in many places. While the government assures us that we need not worry as of this point, we still hope that anyone who has fallen sick to be responsible enough to seek medical help immediately.
A 24-year-old Malaysian man just returned from China and has been experiencing cough and fever for two days. He visited Sungai Buloh Hospital yesterday (31 January) to get treated. According to Sin Chew Daily, he visited Wuhan for two days, and two other provinces before returning to Malaysia on 26 January.
Having symptoms that resemble the novel coronavirus, the hospital decided to quarantine him at around 1 pm. However, the medical staff found him missing at 3:30 pm and they immediately lodged a police report to track down the young man.
It is suspected that he fled while waiting to be assigned to the quarantine ward, and no one was watching him at that time.
Thankfully, after about an hour or so of searching, the young man returned to the hospital to get treated. One of the medical staff explained that he might have waited too long to be assisted at the hospital, thus he returned home without notifying anyone. We think that he shouldn’t have left, considering that he might already be carrying the virus.
Before his whereabouts was updated last night, netizens were extremely angered at how irresponsible this young man was. Many worried that he would spread the virus while he was on the loose. But, we’re glad that he turned up at the hospital in the end.
Please visit the doctor at your nearest clinic ASAP if you’ve fallen sick, whether if it’s the common flu or influenza. Let’s take care of our immune system and keep ourselves hydrated at all times.
