The owner of the 2 Rottweilers that attacked and bit 5 people in an incident at Kuala Ketil, Baling, Kedah, on Tuesday (April 1), has agreed to hand over his dogs to be put to sleep. This incident was not the first time the dogs attacked people.

According to a report by Harian Metro, Baling District Officer, Yazlan Sunardie Che Yahya, shared that the agreement was reached following a meeting between the owner and the authorities.

“The 2 dogs were handed over to the Baling Veterinary Office to be ‘disposed’ of by putting them to sleep according to procedures,” he said.

Consequences for the owner

The owner received 2 compounds from the Baling District Council for keeping the dogs at his home without a license.

Baling District Police Chief, Superintendent Azmi Mokhtar, also shared that the 69-year-old man was granted bail due to his age and health condition, and has guaranteed to attend the trial for his case. The case is being investigated under Section 289 of the Penal Code for negligence in controlling animals that may cause danger to others.

The residents of the neighbourhood, on the other hand, want the owner of the Rottweilers to be held responsible for the injuries suffered by the victims, adding that they believe the owner failed to learn from the first incident 2 years ago.

“He failed to learn from the first incident in 2023, even though a university lecturer was seriously injured. He already knew that keeping the Rottweilers in a residential area was an offence, but he still broke the law,” a resident said.
