4-year-old Megan Khung was only four when she died from severe abuse by her mum and her boyfriend, who landed a fatal punch on Megan’s stomach. The pair also burned Megan’s corpse in a barrel to dispose of the body.

The mother, 29-year-old Foo Li Ping and her partner, 38-year-old Wong, pleaded guilty to the crimes in Singapore court last February, and the verdict is out.

Foo is going to jail for 19 years while Wong will be jailed for 30 years and receive 17 strokes of the cane.

According to Channel News Asia and The Straits Times, Justice Hoo Sheau Peng dubbed the pair’s actions “heinous and extremely bad.” Foo was said to have remained emotionless when the sentence was read out. Footage of the torture was also played in the courtroom, and warnings of the content were given to the attendants.

“Nothing of Megan, not even her ashes remained,” the Judge said in the packed courtroom.

Foo pleaded guilty to three charges, namely,

  • Child abuse
  • Allowing the death of a child
  • Intentional disposal of a corpse to impede the investigation.

Wong, who was under the influence of drugs during the horrific incident, pleaded guilty to four charges, which include,

  • Culpable homicide (an act that resulted in death) for killing Megan
  • Intentional disposal of a corpse
  • Drug trafficking
  • Drug consumption

A friend of the couple, Nouvelle Chua Ruoshi, 35, who consumed drugs with the pair at their condo, has also been charged in connection with Megan’s death.

Megan’s 1-year-long torture before her death

The 4-year-old endured unimaginable pain for 13 months, when she was not given proper shelter, food, and clothes. Foo even put a dirty diaper on Megan’s head before Wong hit her face with a pipe, which dislocated Megan’s jaw.

Wong punched Megan in the stomach, causing her back to hit the wall hard, and Foo eventually told him to stop because “it seemed too much for Megan.” Despite the torture, Megan’s last words to her mum were “I’m sorry, Mummy.”

The pair then burnt Megan’s corpse in a barrel, 3 months after keeping Megan’s body wrapped in a plastic sheet and leaving it in the air-conditioned unit. Her ashes were never recovered.

Megan’s biological father, known online as Simonboy, also penned a heartfelt message in February about the death of his daughter.
