In a recent tragic incident, a man lost his life and another was injured after being attacked by an elephant near a primary school in FELDA Tenggaroh 5, Mersing.
In a statement by Mersing District Police, they mentioned that the incident happened when the 2 victims tried to scare off the elephant that had wandered into the village.
2 people were trampled by the elephant
Tenggaroh State Assemblyman (ADUN) K Raven Kumar shared that they first got word about the elephant sighting around 8:30 AM, and quickly informed the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (PERHILITAN).
He mentioned that he also advised the nearby residents not to disturb or approach the area where the elephant was, but at 11:30 AM, the FELDA manager received a call informing him that 2 individuals had been attacked and trampled by the elephant.

The statement also revealed that the 2 men had approached the elephant while carrying sticks in an attempt to ward it off.
The deceased was pronounced dead on the way to Tenggaroh 2 Health Clinic, while the injured victim suffered from head injuries, internal abdominal bleeding, and a fractured hip.
The police are urging the public to report any wild elephant-related problems to the authorities and not to take matters into their own hands, as this could lead to conflicts and potentially escalate into confrontations.
