It’s truly sad when children have to prioritise the survival of their family, when they’re supposed to be building themselves as individuals.

But, when the situation calls for it, most children will always step up to care for their family.

Farid Nor took to his Facebook page to showcase a struggling family as their mother had fallen terribly ill and how the eldest son, a 16-year-old, had taken up the role of guardian of the family.

Family 1

He wrote, “Hailing from Jerteh, Terengganu, this mother moved to Kuantan with her two young children. Working in a restaurant washing dishes, a year ago she suffered a disease in the brain and experienced nerve problems that affected movement. They had to move to a smaller room because they could not afford to pay rent. The lack of a job forced this family to rely on their siblings who were in Terengganu.”

Family 2

Her eldest son took over managing the family, including taking care of his mother and managing his 6-year-old sister.

“I was really impressed with the perseverance of brother Danial, I’m sure he did not think beyond survival, how to survive tomorrow, compared to other teenagers his age.”

Family 3

“The education of these two little ones is a priority for me and my friend. Other matters we will submit to the authorities,” he added.

We genuinely hope that the authorities manage to help this family as the teenage son deserves to grow and learn without fearing for his family at such a young age.
