Professional helpers and nannies hold a special dynamic in the lives of the families they integrate themselves with. While they are not bound by blood, the relationships they foster are as such, and it’s always important to remember and appreciate those who contribute to making our lives easier.
Entrepreneur and content creator Afzalizah Azizan seems to be leading the way for forwarding such a message, after the business owner shared a snippet to her TikTok page @afzalizahazizan of her family celebrating their helper’s birthday.
In the clip, the family, who was out to eat at a restaurant, had brought over a cake to the table after they finished dining, placing it in front of their helper who was sitting at the edge of the dining table. Unsure at first, the helper looked to her employer, wondering who the cake is for. It was not until Afzalizah can be seen telling her off-screen that the cake is for her, does the helper smile.
After the candles are lit, the helper couldn’t help but break down in tears as she cut her cake. According to the post, the family had written “Happy Birthday Bibik” with a heart symbol on the cake.
Unable to hold back her emotion, the helper lets out more tears once Afzalizah presents her with a birthday gift, causing everyone there to tear up as well. Afzalizah stated in the post that her helper had said, shortly after cutting her cake, that she had never celebrated her birthday in her entire life prior to that moment.
“Even though we do not have blood ties, I have never treated you as an outsider. Thank you for taking care of my children well and never measuring your time or energy,” wrote Afzalizah in the caption of her post.
Bringing the entire comments section to a puddle, many people shared their own instances of celebrating their helper’s birthday, with one user sharing how they hadn’t celebrated their own birthday prior to attending university.
“I remember my days in university. My friend gave me a present and a piece of cake to celebrate my birthday for the first time,” touchingly wrote one user.
The vast majority of commenters also praised Afzalizah for going above and beyond her duties to celebrate a paid employee.
“When you treat her good, she will definitely treat you better, trust me,” wrote another user.
