As prices for living necessities hike up, many people have been struggling and taking up extra work in hopes of tiding through the hard times. Unfortunately, this student has shared his experience while renting a house with his housemates.
In a Twitter confession page, a student has shared that he is living off his PTPTN money while studying. He said,
“I’m renting a house and I’m living off my PTPTN money. I have to spend my money carefully and usually; I would just buy:
- 5kg worth of rice
- Frozen nuggets
- A carton of eggs
“This is what I eat almost every day as I’m trying to save up as much as I can.”
He then expressed how he feels annoyed as his housemates would just take his nuggets and eggs to eat whenever they feel like it. He said,
“They take my food without asking me and I want to tell them off, but I wouldn’t want anyone to think of me as stingy”, he added.
He then ended his post by saying,
“I know it’s a small issue but sometimes it’s really frustrating because I’m trying to save up as much as I can but they’re just leeching off of me.”
Following his post, many people then shared their thoughts and here’s what some of them said:
“You should try talking to the person who is eating your food. Tell him that you’re saving up as you don’t have much money to spare.”
“You have to speak up about it. If you’re hoping for some common sense to knock in, it’s difficult.”
“You must speak up about it. It doesn’t matter if they think you’re stingy. If they do then so be it. These friends will leave you and you will only have 1-2 friends left. It’s best to just be straightforward.
You don’t have to worry about how others would feel. This is because you need to survive with what you have.”
It’s always best to be respectful of others and not overstep other people’s boundaries. After all, we don’t know what other people are struggling with.
