Usually, when you unfriend someone on Facebook, you’d do it quietly and hope that they won’t notice for the years to come.
But this one person (A) though, decided to later WhatsApp the individual (B) they unfriended to let them know why.
B shared the conversation with the YPC Confessions Facebook page, where A explained that they unfriended B because B’s posts were not serious enough for them and that B shares ‘too many funny stuff’.
YPC wrote, “Unfriending someone need to inform meh? Or do they want someone to know of their existence? They said that memes are not serious.”
In the conversation initiated by A, they inform B that they’ve unfriended them because they don’t consider B a friend anymore.
Bewildered, B asks A if they’re having a mental breakdown and if they’re okay.
Upon further prying, B discovered that A found their posts to be not serious enough for them. It is also important to note that A had unfriended B a while back before deciding to let them know.
“Your Facebook posts too many funny stuff and I’m a bit of the serious type. Very difficult to click with your frequency,” A explained.
Unsure of what to say, B wished A well and hoped that their posts didn’t offend A, which led to another explanation as to why A found B’s posts to be not of their quality.
“It’s just because I’m someone who likes to see quality content, so your Facebook posts just didn’t click with me,”
“I’m not the type who likes jokes and humour, I’m more of the reflective, deep thinking type. That’s why my frequency is a bit different from yours,” they added.
Netizens were quick to comment their opinions on the matter, with many pointing out that unfriending B was an unnecessary move considering Facebook’s ‘unfollow’ feature.
Others believe that being unfriended by A might be a blessing in disguise for B.
Some even indicated that LinkedIn would be a more appropriate platform for A, considering their need for more serious content.
So, what do you think?
Should you inform someone when you unfriend them? Should A have just ‘unfollowed’ B?
