Sikit-sikit menjadi bukit’, how many of you have used that adage before in your essays while growing up? For many of us, that is by far and wide the first peribahasa we were taught in Bahasa Malaysia. For those who don’t know what it means, the adage basically suggests that saving up bit by bit can add up to a whole lot.

And for one netizen and her family, their dedication to saving literally every penny has finally paid off after they could no longer fit any more pennies into their ‘tabung’. And to make sure that nobody in the family tries to sneak out some cash from the ‘tabung‘ without them noticing, they decided on using a super unconventional method.

By turning a small gas cylinder, or what we call a gas ‘tong’, into their ‘tabung‘.

That’s right, whatever spare change they have, they simply dropped it right into the gas cylinder ‘tabung‘ for a rainy day. And when the day came to crack open their communal ‘tabung‘, the scale of how much the family managed to save for almost five years is incredible!

Bringing a handyman in to help them remove the top of the gas ‘tong‘ (obviously it has no gas inside lah), the contents within amounted to a huge stack of coins.

In fact, there were so many coins that the family managed to save up over the years, that they had to separate them into more than 10 plastic bags! Wow!

According to an interview she had with Astro, the netizen revealed that her family managed to save up to RM2,500 in total from that gas tong tabung!

The incredible feat has since gone viral over social media, with fellow Malaysians praising the netizen and her family for practising the habit of saving up for a rainy day, while also sharing their own efforts in saving their own money.

Honestly, with all this talk about saving, we’re just as inclined to start a little ‘tabung’ of our own at home! Remember, a little a day can really make a difference, and this is proof!
