A sharing by a local entrepreneur specialising in vehicle-tinted film services, James Alatin has caught the attention of Malaysians recently after he revealed the correct way to start a car with the ‘oldschool’ ignition lock cylinder i.e. the part where you put the car key and turn it to start.
Well, if you’ve been putting in your car key and immediately turned the whole way to start the engine, you’ve been doing it all wrong, as according to James, that’s not the correct way to do it.
How to correctly start an ‘oldschool’ car with ignition lock cylinder
Instead, the entrepreneur revealed the correct way to start a car by 1st showing the 4 positions on the ignition lock cylinder, which are Lock, Accessory (ACC), On and Start.
James then showed that after inserting your car key, you must 1st turn the key to the ACC position.
Afterwards, you need to check the vehicle’s dashboard to observe whether the car has any problems by checking on the light indicators of the instrument cluster.
If there are no problems you must then turn the key to the On position rather than immediately start the car.
Press on the brakes 1st before starting the engine
While the car key is in the On position, you must then press on the brakes and ONLY after this step can you start the car by turning it to the Start position.
James then asserted,
“Old timers would be familiar with this way. But for those who just got their licence or someone who’s not familiar with the ‘oldschool’ ignition lock cylinder, you need to learn this.”
As of the time of writing, the video has been incredibly popular, garnering over 1.1 million views and more than 14,000 reactions.
