As prices for houses continue to rise, it’s definitely getting more difficult for youngsters to buy a house. That being said, when someone manages to buy a house, some of them would choose to share their joy online with their friends and family.
Unfortunately for this Malaysian, she thinks otherwise. Just recently, she posted a story on Facebook saying that she doesn’t understand why those couples would post a picture of them standing together in front of their house.
“To the couples who would take a picture of themselves in front of their new house and then post it on social media, I know you’re just doing it to show off”, she said.
She then continued in her post saying that she doesn’t understand why they would have to announce it to everyone.
“Can’t you just buy your house and be quiet about it? Why do you have to let the whole world know? Are you trying make other people jealous?”, she added.
She also mentioned that couples who post things like these would also cause other couples to argue.
“If you wanted the whole world to know, why not just publish it on the billboards or print out flyers and stick them on pillars?” she asked.
She then ended the post by saying,
“You think people would be happy for you? Stop being foolish, no one would be happy for you.”
Following the post, she received backlash from Malaysians and here’s what they said:
“I would be happy for my friends as it is an achievement. If I don’t have my own house, I would use this as a motivation to push myself so that I can be on the same pace. I wouldn’t just rant and whine about why my friends are ‘showing off’.”
“It’s up to them as to what they want to post. They worked hard to earn the money and they didn’t post it for the sake of your happiness. If you don’t have the ability to buy, who are you to stop them from posting?
You should adjust your mindset, if you look at things as though they’re showing off, of course you will feel bad about yourself. There’s no right or wrong in this matter, you just need to adjust your mindset.”
“Buying a house and posting it on social media isn’t showing off, it’s for the sake of giving yourself encouragement, noting it down that you’ve achieved a milestone. I never once felt jealous when I see other people living better than me, I would only try my best and make sure I can be where I want to be.
There are plenty of rich and humble people around me and you may think sharing it on Facebook is showing off, but to me I just want to share my joy and happiness. It gives me the satisfaction knowing that my hard work paid off.
I don’t really care how other people think, I know for a fact that my true friends would be happy for me. Mom, I made it!”
