Although the Covid-19 pandemic has resulted in the loss of jobs and livelihoods of many Malaysians, it appears that many businesses are still suffering from lack of staff.
This is felt even more in those working in the F&B and retail sectors.
A Malaysian who works at a restaurant, recently pleaded for people to apply to jobs in F&B as most places are now severely understaffed leading to the overworking of existing staff.
In the video shared by Syamil on TikTok, he hoped that his video would reach the For You Page of the app. He also wrote, “I can’t stand having to go back home at 2/3am every day.”
“Whoever is looking for a job, please don’t hesitate to contact me.”
In the comments section of the video, Syamil also shared where he currently works and the job details.
He also revealed that he’s been working non stop for 16 days straight and that although the restaurant closes at 11pm, he and the handful of other staff members end up going home at 2-3am.
Other F&B staff share same experiences
Syamil’s video has garnered plenty of attention and currently sits on over 452,400 views and 40,400 likes. Those who are currently working at other restaurants sympathised with Syamil’s plea.
“Exactly like me. I’ve been working full shift since last month. Super lifeless,” said one user.
Another user pointed out that now there is a huge number of job openings, but finding staff is difficult.
Some users said that it’s due to the rise of flexible work such as food delivery riders. “A lot of people are turning to riders as they can work freely without any stress,” said a user.
Another said, “the reason is because F&B is tiring and the existence of food delivery platforms.”
