Growing up Asian, our parents believed more in home-remedies as compared to Western medications. The diagnosis for most ailment would be your body “overheating” and you should just drink more water.
However, it seems like some of the products believed to be an Asian parents’ staple might be causing more harm than good. Public Health Malaysia explained in a Facebook post some of these common products are actually dangerous to be used on children below the age of two as they contain camphor.
The wrong usage of these products can lead to your children having seizures and even death or poisoning if ingested. Therefore, it’s highly advisable that you follow the instructions carefully. Some of these products that contain camphor include:
1. VapoRub
2. Tiger Balm
3. Minyak Angin Cap Kapak
*Can cause convulsion; Contraindicated in children below 2 years of age
4. Mentholatum Ointment
5. Minyak Angin Cap Lang
6. Yoko Yoko
7. Hurix’s Nutmeg Balm
*Can cause convulsion; Contraindicated in children below 2 years of age
