There are a lot of Malaysians out there who are struggling through the Covid-19 pandemic and the lockdowns that come with it.
But, thankfully, there are other Malaysians who are willing to help.
As according to Kosmo, 57-year-old Mohamad Fakhrulzaman Abdul Malik and his wife, 46-year-old Rohayati Salleh who have been working as cooks at a restaurant, lost their jobs after the eatery they were working at had to close since the initial Movement Control Order (MCO) in March.
In order to survive, they were forced to sell off their belongings including a watch and their fridge, but when L. Linda Kasturi, a used-furniture store owner arrived to buy their fridge, she also decided to take them in.
“However, our lives changed when Linda saw our condition and took us to her home to care for us. Since early in the MCO, I had a stroke and could not work until now. We’ve been staying with Linda Kasturi’s family for six months now and we’re well taken care of. They’ve given us a place to stay and halal food throughout the six months, and they even call me ‘father’ and my wife, ‘mother’,” Mohamad Fakhrulzaman said.
He shared that he and his wife feel very grateful to Linda and her family for taking such good care of them.
“They treat us like family and even have prepared a prayer space for us and sends me to the mosque on Fridays,” he added. Mohamad Fakhrulzaman and his wife have five children aged seven to 24, to which one of their children is studying at a local university while another is studying at a religious school in Indonesia.
Linda shared that the religious differences are not an obstacle in her decision to help them and treat them like they are her very own parents.
“I hope that others will help them as well. I have the intention of building a house for them next to mine as my children have grown close to them,” she said.
Linda’s actions are beyond exemplary and deserve to be highlighted. Kudos, Linda.
