During the hiring process, the employer is bound to witness different and random colors of a person, but perhaps nothing beats the recent experience of a Malaysian employer, Jacky who thought he found the right person for the job.
In a series of screenshots of conversations, Jacky, who runs a car accessories shop spoke to a 36 years old man who asked for a pay range between RM3,800 to RM4,500. Jacky asked him to come for an interview, but the man requested an online interview as he was in Penang. The man also said that he has a working experience of 10 years.
Jacky offered him a monthly pay of RM3,800, with an expected starting date on April 1. Not only that but Jacky will also provide a place for the man and his wife to stay. He then assured the man that there isn’t much workload and it was not going to be a stressful job.
Borrowing money before the 1st day of work
A few days later, Jacky informed the man that he has rented a unit for the man and his wife, the room comes with air-cond, and the utility bills are all covered.
Everything was going smoothly until the man sought financial help from Jacky on March 28, just a few days before he was expected to start work.
“Boss, can I get an advance of RM1,000 first?”
Jacky told the man that he should’ve come to work first, because “nobody takes an advance even before he starts working”. The man insisted that he won’t run away and will start working on the scheduled date. However, Jacky refused to lend the money.
“There’s another place that offered me Rm5,000. If you’re not going to lend me the money, I might need to reconsider my decision.”
Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Jacky said that the man asked for an advance because he did not have enough cash in hand and that he has a wife and a few children to take care of.
“I gave him 2 options. He refused and threatened me by saying he wasn’t coming to work.”
Jacky said he would have given the man RM300 when he comes to work on the first day, and since the man said no, Jacky could only let him go and moved on.
“The country is seriously running out for foreign labours, and most locals are not willing to get their hands dirty, such as fixing cars,” he added.
Jacky also told WORLD OF BUZZ that his team has always treated their workers fairly and everyone is paid accordingly.
“I understand that times are tough now. I posted this matter on Facebook to alert others because it might be a scam.”

Dear employers, do you think this is another scammer in disguise, or could the man genuinely be struggling financially?
