Sometimes, it’s terrifying to even imagine the dangers that our toddlers may be exposed to, and recently, a Malaysian mother shared her nightmarish experience where she was so close to losing her 1-year-old daughter.
On her Facebook account, the mother, Gwendolyn said that she was in the washroom when she decided to call out to her eldest daughter to ask her what she wanted for dinner. Her daughter’s response, however, was not towards Gwendolyn’s question.
“My baby was crying hysterically, and my eldest daughter was screaming, saying that the baby’s head was stuck at the bed guard,” Gwendolyn said.
In case you find it tough to imagine the situation, Gwendolyn attached an image of a doll’s head stuck at the bed guard for your reference.
While it may be easy for an adult to remove his/her head from the bed guard, it is definitely an impossible mission for a toddler to do. What Gwendolyn had to see once she came out of the washroom was definitely a mother’s biggest nightmare.
“Her face was pale and her lips went purple. She was suffocating and gasping for air.”
Fortunately, through her swift action, Gwendolyn managed to save her baby. They cried together as they were all traumatised by the incident, and Gwendolyn couldn’t help but to imagine all the what-ifs. Everything happened so fast.
Does that mean the end of bed guard for her?
Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Gwendolyn said she is still using the bed guard despite the incident but NOT without safety measures.
“We took it up a notch to improvise the guards, so the possibilities for such an incident can be minimised.”
It’s nearly impossible for her to sleep without the bed guard because she sleeps with 2 of her young daughters, and to prevent them from falling off the bed, the bed guard plays an important role.
1 thing is for sure, Gwendolyn will never leave the youngest alone on the bed anymore. It was truly a near-death experience, and Gwendolyn told WORLD OF BUZZ that she cannot imagine history repeating itself.
“We cannot deal with another episode of near-death situation.”
With her Facebook post going viral, Gwendolyn hopes that her traumatic experience serves as awareness to all parents in the world.
“Create an awareness so no one has to go through what I went through.”
We almost lost our youngest daughter. While I was inside the toilet dealing with a bad tummy ache, I called my eldest…
