A man was found dead in a mango tree after he allegedly suffered an electric shock while picking mangoes at Kamping Bambangan, Sandakan, Sabah, on Sunday afternoon (June 8).

According to a report by Harian Metro, it is understood that 42-year-old Ahajah Abdul Musa had climbed up the mango tree and used an iron pole to poke at the mangoes at the end of a branch. He had then accidentally hit a nearby electric cable, which led to his electrocution.

Papar Fire and Rescue Station Chief, Assistant Fire Superintendent Rozlan Osman, shared that his party received an emergency call in regards to the situation at about 3:01pm.

Upon their arrival at the location, the victim was found to be in an unconscious state while still on the mango tree.

“The fire brigade acted to lower the victim from the tree using a ladder and rescue rope, after the electricity supply was cut off by Sabah Electricity. The victim was confirmed dead by Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) officials at the scene,” he added.

The victim’s body has since been handed over to the police for further action.
