Growing up, our bicycles were our pride and joy! We’d ride them just about anywhere and everywhere with our friends. But, there have been numerous cases of kids cycling, pulling off crazy stunts that could potentially endanger themselves and others around them.
Keenan reached out to WORLD OF BUZZ after witnessing some kids riding their bicycles on the road on Jalan Majlis in Petaling Jaya around 10:14 p.m.
The kids were doing dangerous stunts
Keenan shared that, at the time, he and his girlfriend (Emily) were driving home after dinner. On their way back, they unexpectedly encountered a group of kids, around 8 to 12 years old, riding their bicycles in the slow lane.
To make matters worse, the kids were not only riding their bicycles in the dark but were also performing a risky “Superman” stunt.
Emily explained that, due to the poorly lit area, she (the driver) and Keenan (the passenger) nearly had an accident because they didn’t see the kids until they were really close to them.
“We were on our way home when suddenly we had to slam the brakes as we encountered a group of kids. The area was dark, and the kids weren’t wearing any safety gear or using lights, which are typically used to stay visible. ” Emily added.
The kids just laughed and rode away
Keenan also mentioned that there were several kids involved with 2 of them on a motorcycle and around 6 others on bicycles.
Emily went on to explain that she honked at the kids to alert them of their surroundings since it was dark and visibility was poor. However, the kids ignored the warnings.
“We ended up rolling down our windows to warn them about the danger, but they just laughed and rode away,” she said.
Keenan also added that the kids had no headlights or high-visibility vests and even ran through a red light.
Emily had just gotten her driver’s license
Keenan then shared that he reached out to WORLD OF BUZZ hoping to raise awareness about this serious issue. He also pointed out that they were incredibly lucky nothing bad happened, especially since Emily was a new driver at the time.
“To all drivers, stay alert, especially in poorly lit areas. Parents should also be more responsible for watching over their children, as we’ve seen in past cases where situations like this could have escalated horribly,” he advised.
Emily also shared her thoughts on the situation, saying,
“We hope parents will remind their kids about road safety and that everyone stays vigilant to keep children safe.”
