A social media influencer, Eira Aziera (real name Noorazira Pissal) has failed in her appeal to set aside the High Court’s decision where she was ordered to pay RM100,000 for saying abusive things and body shaming a female commissioner of oath on Facebook Live in 2020.
A 3-panel judge went through her appeal and said that it had no merit as the influencer had uttered defamatory words, reported BERNAMA.
“Based on the appeal records, we also agree with the High Court judge that the other elements (defamation) have been proven. Therefore, the appeal regarding liability is dismissed and the findings of the High Court judge are upheld.”
According to Berita Harian, the whole saga unfolded when the female commissioner of oath, Suharnizan Md Sidek, left a comment on Eira Aziera’s Facebook Live session where she asked: “You live stream cooking, you live stream eating, you put the slimming products there, does it actually work?”
It is said that she was “viralled” in the video and at that time, she did not do anything and just hoped that it would die on its own.
On 14 September 2020, a video of Suharnizan Md Sidek getting body shamed was uploaded on several Facebook pages which garnered thousands of views and comments. In addition to that, a picture showing her and her children’s faces was shown without her permission.
Well, body shaming is an offence, guys so we should all think before we make any comments that will make a person feel bad.
