She can’t fly but she is definitely a superwoman in her own ways. Most importantly, she is definitely stronger than most of us.
It requires strength to carry a gas cylinder that weighs around 30kg but for a 30-year-old Khairunissa, she can easily handle not 1, not 2 but 4 gas cylinders at a time. She is able to simply push all 4 gas cylinders simultaneously and it looks effortless!
With 3 years of experience as a gas cylinder supplier, the woman from Kemaman, Terengganu is used to carrying 2 gas cylinders at a time and climbing up the stairs when she has to deliver them to customers who live in flats and apartments.
Since her teen years, she has been involved with heavy tasks which men would usually do, which includes driving a forklift and a lorry. She has been doing these all by herself and without help from anyone.
“I work with my mother-in-law ever since my husband passed away. I was initially the forklift driver and all I had to do was to move the cylinders from the trailers,” Khairunissa said.
She explained that she started to be part of the action in handling & carrying the gas cylinders last year due to lack of manpower. Throughout her working hours, which is from 8am till 5pm, she can deliver between 60-100 gas cylinders in a day.
“I was embarrassed at first when I started to drive the lorry and carry gas cylinders. But all that faded in time and I don’t mind helping especially if the customers are women or elderlies,” she explained.
She also said that she doesn’t want her children to feel their lives are lacking something following the death of their father. In fact, she is still taking care of her 74-year-old mother-in-law who is actually Chinese.
Khairunissa’s commitment and efforts are certainly admirable. She’s not only physically stronger than us but also mentally stronger for having the capabilities of doing so many things in a day.
