When the world was hit with the pandemic, one of the essentials that Malaysians have relied on is food delivering services. That being said, food delivery riders were considered as the brave ones who were willing to risk their lives during these uncertain times.
Just recently, a food delivery rider shared his work experience and it’s truly shocking to hear the extent some people would go to.
According to his post, he said,
“Today I want to talk about T20 customers whom I’ve encountered. I’m just a food rider but I’ve faced this issue 2-3 times already. Whenever I call the customers, they don’t pick up and when I ring their doorbell, they don’t even come out to get their food.
When we leave the food on their fence or doorstep and leave, they will then complain on the app that their food didn’t arrive and would demand for a refund.”
He then shared about an experience he encountered where he arrived at a customer’s house and called them. He mentioned that the area he was at were filled with big and expensive houses.
“I tried calling but they didn’t pick my call, so I rang the doorbell a few times and as expected, nobody came out to grab the food. I could sense that someone was ‘watching’ me from behind the curtains, so I placed the food on the wall near the gate and begin my ‘operation’.
I drove my bike further down the street and started waiting. As soon as I saw someone came out of the house, I started filming and as I predicted, 40 minutes later I got a call from customer service saying that the food they ordered didn’t arrive”, he added.
He mentioned that he sent a picture of the food placed on top of the wall as well as the house number, but the customer was adamant that the customer didn’t receive their order.
“At the end, I sent the video over to the customer service team and then only did the customer admit that he ‘forgotten’ he collected the food”, he said.
He then ended the post saying,
“Customers like these are so ill-hearted, living in big houses but wanting to eat for free.”
The post has since garnered over 1.3k likes and many have commented on the issue.
Here’s what some of them said:
“The rich people are stingy because they’re afraid of being poor. But they’re also poor people who are afraid that people would think lowly of them because they’re poor. I would rather be ridiculed than being the one who ridicules.”
“T20 would occasionally not care if the food they get is halal or haram, as long as it’s beneficial to them. Sometimes, there are some B40s who act like that.
We just need to make sure we’re doing things right and if we know it’s wrong, we shouldn’t do it.”
“I’m a rider and I set a bodycam on me. I spent RM300 on it but it saves me from a lot of scam cases like these. I will just email the footage over. Sometimes, it’s not about riding an expensive bike or wearing an expensive watch. Things (bodycam) like these are necessary to protect ourselves.
Whether they’re T20, M40 or B40 that’s not the issue, the issue is the individual themselves. The companies we’re in doesn’t care if this is halal or haram, they’ll suspend us and then only they start investigating.
It’s capitalism and all they care about is profit. Just a buy a bodycam to protect yourself.”
We hope this serves as a reminder to not do this to your food delivery riders as they work hard to make ends meet.
