A viral video has been making its rounds on social media recently, showing the cute interaction between a Malaysian woman with a majestic Great Hornbill in Pulau Pangkor, Perak.
Taking to her TikTok account, the woman, Suzie Hany recorded her encounter with the massive bill bird while she was out on the beautiful island for a picnic.
The Great Hornbill wanted some of her picnic food
In the video, the Great Hornbill can be seen trying to steal some of the food that Suzie brought and placed on a folding table.
However, the concave-casque avian was stopped in its tracks by Suzie who adorably said “No” and asked “What are you doing?” to it as she came closer.
The Great Hornbill then flew away a few metres and sat at a concrete divider near a loaf of bread, which Suzie also brought.
Suzie then repeatedly said no to the Great Hornbill again, as if knowing that the bird wanted to get some of the bread too.
The woman decided to feed the Great Hornbill herself
She then cut a slice of bread and offered it to the Great Hornbill by coming closer and repeatedly saying “bread” and “here you go” to the avian.
As if understanding Suzie, the Great Hornbill then approached her and bit on the piece of bread.
Suzie then said “go” to the bird which moved its head while putting the bread in a more stable position in its beak.
In a rather wholesome way, the way the Great Hornbill moved its head was as if it was nodding and making a “thank you” gesture to Suzie before it flew away.

The Great Hornbill was finding food to share with its partner

She added that the island is well-known for its Great Hornbills and the large bird species is actually one of the island’s major attractions.
Suzie further revealed that she encountered the Great Hornbill while having a picnic with her family and seeing how it tried to steal some of the food, Suzie said that she decided to feed the bird instead.
Moreover, Suzie said that the Great Hornbill was actually getting some food for itself and its partner which was waiting nearby the area. She added that the species has been documented to always fly in pairs. Aww, so cute!
