Malaysian fans, mark your calendars. Donnie Yen will be paying us a visit to KL on January 13 and 14 to meet his fans and promote his upcoming film, as announced by GSC Cinemas. Inspired and adapted by the Chinese novel Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils, the film Sakra is directed by Donnie Yen himself.
After his latest action flick, Raging Fire, which was released in late 2021 to an overwhelmingly positive response, as well as Come Back Home which was released in October 2022, the legendary Hong Kong action star is back with Sakra which is slated to release in Malaysian cinemas on 16 January 2023.
In Sakra, Donnie Yen plays Qiao Feng, the protagonist of the novel, and aside from directing the movie himself, he also served as the producer of Sakra.
“Only by deeply understanding the operation of the entire film we can make better movies,” Donnie Yen said.
As of now, the locations of the meet and greet events have yet to be disclosed, but as of now, you can at least mark your calendars and make sure you don’t miss seeing the action star in person! According to Sin Chew, special priority screenings will be held on January 14 and 15, 2023.
Donnie Yen has been in the filming industry since the 80s, but he reached his peak moment and found fame after starring in the titular role in IP Man which was released back in 2008, and then spawned 3 sequels.
This will not be his first visit as Donnie is not a stranger to Malaysia, and he has visited our country multiple times in previous years to promote his movies. He last visited Malaysia in 2019 to promote Ip Man 4: The Finale and his visit to KL garnered a massive crowd as fans were there to meet the action star himself. In case you are not aware, Sakra will not be the only movie that Donnie will star in 2023. He will be appearing as Cain in the Hollywood blockbuster John Wick: Chapter 4, and stars alongside the main character, who is played by Keanu Reeves.
