A disturbing incident occurred to a family in Kedah, in Taman Maluri, Jitra at 2am on the 19th of Jan 2024. Their car was intentionally set on fire while they were at home, believed to be a crime driven by jealousy.

The house owner, Amirul Affi Romli, shared on Facebook the frightening experience he and his family went through. A neighbor’s alarming call brought the shocking news that their parked car was on fire just outside their home.

In response to the alarming situation, the family quickly exited through the back door. Thanks to the prompt and effective intervention of the Jitra Fire Department, the fire was swiftly extinguished.

In the post, Amirul also shared how the next day, 20th Jan at 12.50am an unfamiliar young man was acting suspiciously near the car. However, the young man hastily fled the scene when Amirul’s siblings confronted him.

Following the fire department’s forensic investigation this afternoon, on January 20, 2024, it’s confirmed as a criminal case due to traces of spilled petrol on the car’s body. Due to the traces of petrol, the family believes that this might be the act of jealousy although they shared that they do not have any suspects in mind as they do not have enemies, neither do they have any dealings with ah longs.

The person responsible for this act still remains a mystery

The suspicious young man mentioned earlier, who was initially considered the primary suspect, voluntarily surrendered himself at the police station on the 21st Jan. It was then discovered that he has special needs. The poor boy was there at that hour of the night as he couldn’t sleep, and as he loves to observe cars.

Amirul added,

“It’s impossible for a car that is only 5-year-old to catch fire on its own without the engine running. Inside the car, there are no easily flammable items such as aerosol air fresheners or power banks.”

Internet users swiftly filled the comment section to express their thoughts on the situation.
