In this instance, we don’t think the phrase “work smarter, not harder” is exactly the right way to do things.
The frustrations of a Malaysian driving instructor over the antics of his student went viral on TikTok recently, with netizens particularly amused by the student driver’s gung-ho approach to parallel parking.
In a video shared by appypyna on TikTok, the student driver casually skipped the “parallel” part of the parallel parking practice at a driving learning institute and ran over the brick dividers meant as guidelines for the driving technique.
The video has since gone viral with over 5.2 million views and more than 315,000 likes, with many laughing at the instructor’s colourful outbursts.
The student driver drove past the barriers at the very start of the video, which was met with the instructor scolding,
“Woi, hey, oh such an easy way of doing things! Do you think I’m blind and didn’t see that?
“Go back out… That’s the problem when you’re too smart, you don’t listen to others.”
The student driver then went out of the parallel parking spot and tried again to do it correctly but failed again as this time, while not going over the barriers, the student did the manoeuvre incorrectly by driving into the spot from the front.
After being scolded again, the student driver then went about parallel parking correctly by reversing into the spot and parking almost perfectly.

In the comments section, many Malaysians made fun of the whole incident and shared the instructor’s frustrations.
One commenter jokingly asked why most student drivers are not from planet Earth, presumably from the out-of-the-world way they drive. Besides that one commenter sarcastically said that this is a prime example of working smart and not working hard, while another joked that this is an example of an out-of-the-box way to parallel park.
