Johor State Islamic Religious Department (JAINJ) enforcement officers detained a couple for khalwat inside a tent set up in a house under renovation.
The man in his 40s, who was previously married, was caught with a single woman in her 40s inside the tent at 3:30 AM yesterday (31 December 2025) after a public tip-off.

A couple in their 40s was caught for khalwat inside a tent erected inside a house under renovation
Upon reaching the house, JAINJ officers discovered that the door was unlocked and noticed a red tent set up in the centre of the living room.
After calling out to the couple from the outside, the couple emerged from the tent and admitted that they were not married to each other.
According to statements obtained during questioning, both individuals are working in Kluang. The house, which belongs to the man’s parents, has been vacated and is currently undergoing renovations to convert it from a wooden structure to a brick one.
The woman lived approximately 10km away from the house.
It was not their first rodeo
JAINJ spokesperson described the tent as similar to those used for beach camping or at flood relief centres.
In a Facebook statement, the spokesperson said the officers acted on a complaint from the public claiming that the couple had stayed overnight together on more than one occasion.
“The complainant said that it had happened on multiple occasions, but had just recently lodged a report after the matter got out of hand,” the spokesperson stated.

Pillows and a blanket were also found in the tent, which could fit up to four people. When questioned about marriage, the couple stated that they had plans to marry but had not taken any steps to make it happen.
They were then handed over to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) for further action.
