A husband and wife who were reported missing since 20 July have surrendered to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) after their disappearance was allegedly linked to debts owed through an illegal rotating savings scheme, commonly known as duit kutu.

Kubang Pasu District Police Chief Superintendent Mohd Radzi Abdul Rahim said the couple, aged 39 and 36, turned themselves in at the Kubang Pasu District Police Headquarters (IPD) at approximately 1:50 AM today (6 August), more than two weeks after they first vanished.

Four-day remand order issued

The couple have been remanded for four days to assist in the ongoing investigation. The remand order was issued by Magistrate Nor Syaliati Mohd Sobri, allowing the two suspects to be held from today until Sunday (9 August) to facilitate enquiries.

The woman’s 62-year-old father had previously lodged a missing persons report at the Bukit Kayu Hitam Police Station after unsuccessful attempts to locate his daughter, son-in-law, and grandchild.

According to Harian Metro, investigations using closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from their residential area revealed that the family of three had briefly returned home in a vehicle at 1:12 AM on Monday (3 August) before departing again shortly after.

Victim claims RM25,000 loss in duit kutu scheme

On Wednesday, Mohd Radzi revealed that police had also received a report from a 23-year-old man who claimed to have lost RM25,000 in connection with the alleged duit kutu scheme involving the 36-year-old woman, as reported by Berita Harian.

While the husband and wife have now surrendered to the authorities, the whereabouts of their nine-year-old child remain unknown, and police investigations are ongoing.
