Malaysian chef Zamzani Abdul Wahab recently found himself under fire after social media users expressed unhappiness over his remark about going home early during Ramadan.
In a recent Threads post, Chef Zam questioned those who “are desperate” to leave the office early when Iftar (breaking fast) is still hours away. In his post, Chef Zam wrote:
“Iftar is at 7:29 PM. Why are you so desperate to leave the office at 4:30 PM? Are you cooking for a catering business?”

Following the online criticism, Chef Zam has since deleted the viral Threads post and issued an immediate public apology. In his apology, he clarified that his poor choice of words had led to a misunderstanding of his intended message.
“We’re all human, and we make mistakes.”
In his apology post on Saturday (21 February), Chef Zam explained that what he meant was “rushing to go home.” As for the “catering business” part, he said it was merely a joke. He also stressed that he never intended to belittle anyone’s hardships.
“It never crossed my mind to belittle the hardships you go through when rushing home to make the many necessary preparations. I apologise for my mistakes that have caused your anger.”

In another Threads post on the same day, Chef Zam once again extended his apologies and explained that he did not expect his poor choice of words to cause such a stir online. He also acknowledged the criticism, saying he accepted it with an open heart, and emphasised that he had done his part by issuing an apology.
“We’re all human, and regardless of who we are, we’ll make mistakes — but that’s how we learn.”
