Here’s a scenario, when you see an ambulance coming from behind you, what do you do? Obviously, the only right answer to this question is to MOVE out of the ambulance’s way.
But, sadly, in Malaysia, many people don’t get that memo and lives have been lost because of it. So, then, why would anyone find it amusing to purposely block an ambulance’s way?
The St John Muar Ambulance TikTok page recently shared a video taken from one of their ambulances. The video showed how a pickup truck decided to purposely block the ambulance’s way despite it sounding it’s siren. What makes this worse is that the ambulance driver saw the people inside the pickup truck laughing at them when finally giving way to the ambulance.
They wrote, “They didn’t learn the lesson of the case of the Avanza that prevented an ambulance from overtaking and causing the loss of life. This time, we found the same species on the Pedas Linggi highway, heading to KL.”
“If you’re raising your hand, saying that maybe they didn’t hear, maybe we can forgive them. But, after we overtook them, we saw them laughing. It seems they find it fun to be bullies.”
In the video taken from the ambulance’s perspective, the pickup truck could be seen hogging the fast lane on a highway and refusing to move out of the way of the ambulance.
The ambulance then sounded it’s siren as a method to urge them to do the right thing but even then the pickup truck refused to move (they had many chances to change lanes).
Only after quite a while did the pickup truck finally give way, allowing the ambulance to pass but the ambulance driver then added, “After we overtook them, we saw 3 of them (inside the pickup truck) laughing at us”.
We genuinely hope that the authorities take action against the irresponsible pickup truck driver for treating the ambulance like a joke and potentially affecting a patient’s wellbeing.
