With this prolonged MCO, more and more people are feeling its effects as they are unable to work and put food on the table for their family.
In a Facebook post by activist Heidy Quah, she shared about the number of requests for help that are continuously on the rise. She started off the post by saying:
“Broke down for the first time today in a long time.”
She elaborated by saying that over the past week, the organisation Refuge for the Refugees has been receiving pleas for help from more than 1,500 families. The organisation has been hard at work and has supplied grocery packs to more than 400 families but the calls just keep coming in.
“Our RFTR Hotline is blowing up. We are receiving calls every 10 minutes and over 100+ new messages each day. The voice notes being sent to us are absolutely heartbreaking.”
Along with those messages, pictures of empty milk tins, empty rice buckets and small children were attached. As Heidy was looking through the list of families that seem to be growing even longer, she broke down as she had to pick and choose from the abundance of families that applied for help this week.
“Tonight, as I sit looking at our list of 1,500++ families and growing – I broke down. I broke down because out of the entire list I had to pick which 450-500 families we could help this week.”
“How do you decide who gets to eat for the week? I don’t know how.”
So, if you are in a position to help someone, please consider donating to Heidy’s organisation. It only costs RM60 to feed a family. The details are as follow.
