Malaysia had a total of 22 Covid-19 cases since 15th February and by 24th February, 20 patients had fully recovered and was discharged, bringing the total number of patients to two.

However, the Health Ministry reported yesterday (27th February) that one new case of Covid-19 has been detected, according to The Star, bringing the total number of cases in Malaysia to 23.

Health Director-General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the latest positive case in the country is a 53-year-old Malaysian woman, who had travelled to Japan recently.

“After arriving back from Japan on Feb 23rd, the patient developed fever symptoms the following day, and received treatment in a hospital in Kuala Lumpur,” he said.

“A Covid-19 test was done, and it was found to be positive on Wednesday (Feb 26th).”

On the bright side, the previous two remaining patients were reported to have recovered from Covid-19 and were discharged on Wednesday (26th February).

They were a 67-year-old woman from China and an 83-year-old female from the United States, who were the 16th and 22nd positive cases respectively in Malaysia.

This leaves one Covid-19 patient left in the country.

“A total of 22 people have fully recovered and have been discharged from the ward,” Dr Hisham added.

He also said that up to 27th February, a total of 1,569 individuals had taken the test for Covid-19. These are people who had come into close contact with those from the humanitarian mission in Wuhan, and people from the Dream World cruise.

“From the total, 23 cases were Covid-19 positive, while 1,523 were negative and 23 cases are pending lab reports,” he said.

On 26th February, a total of 66 individuals – 46 Malaysians and 20 non-Malaysians – had been brought back from Wuhan, China through the second Humanitarian Mission Aid.

“Upon arrival in Malaysia, they were screened and had their samples taken to confirm for Covid-19,” Hisham said.

“Based on the screenings, no individuals have developed any Covid-19 symptoms and they were placed in an observation centre for 14 days.”

This is positive news for Malaysia! Although one more Covid-19 case has been confirmed, we have to be thankful for the 22 patients that have recovered so far!
