Earlier in November, a 2-year-old child passed away after being left in the car for 8 hours in Ara Damansara.
On that day, the mother had reached the daycare centre at about 7 am and was attending to some online business when she forgot to drop her child off.
In the latest development of this case, the mother, a 38-year-old trader, has pleaded not guilty to the charge of child negligence.
According to BERNAMA, she was charged under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 which, if found guilty, she will fined up to RM50,000 or imprisoned for up to 20 years or both.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Anis Hakimah Ibrahim had suggested for the bail to be set at RM15,000 in 1 surety. Her lawyer had asked for leniency by citing that his client had been cooperative during investigations.
“Since the incident, she has also suffered trauma.”
The judge allowed bail of RM7,000 and required her to report to the nearest police station once a month. In addition to that, she also needs to avoid harassing any witness(es).
We hope that the little child rests in peace. Hopefully, other parents will be wary of leaving their children in the car.
